Naked.

I know, it’s not the first word that pops into my mind when I think about food. But, the more I contemplated the notion, the more it made sense. I want my food to be naked: Free of GMO’s, raw, nutrient-dense and healthy. I want my food to be in its purest form so it can fuel my body the way it’s supposed to.

When I discovered NAGI bars on Instagram, I reached out to founder Justyna Kozlowska, a personal trainer and registered massage therapist, to find out more about her vegan, super food protein bars. It turns out, nagi means naked in Polish which I ADORED because it tugged on the heartstrings of my Polish roots. What I love about NAGI bars is that I can read the ingredient list and know exactly what I’m getting. They get bonus points for being Canadian-made, vegan (I don’t have to worry about taking a lactose pill with these), and made in small-batches aka fresh to order. There's nothing artificial about these bars.

(I gotta let you know NAGI kindly sent some of their products to try. Read my full disclosure policy here. )

And, after testing the bars for a few months, I have to say they have quickly become my favourite snack-on-the-go. I keep one in my purse for emergencies, and when I have a migraine, they are a great way to get some protein and nutritionally balanced ingredients into my body when my appetite is low (Each bar has between 12-13g of protein).

When I’m not eating NAGI bars straight from the package, I love crumbling them on top of smoothies and nice creams.

This smoothie bowl is perfect for these last mornings of summer where you need a kick of caffeine to get going and some protein to sustain you through the day. I added some aloe vera gel (NOT the green stuff, the pure, clear version from health food stores) for an extra boost of anti-oxidants and vitamins. If you don’t have it on hand, don’t worry, this smoothie will taste just fine!
